Nearly $8 million will flow from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to Millard County, Utah, a distribution that the county was not expecting.

Republican County Commissioner Dean Draper said he was “delighted” to see the unanticipated funds. All of Utah’s members of Congress voted against ARPA.

The Sheriff’s office appears to be the biggest winner in the windfall to Millard County, with funds recommended toward the office’s fleet of vehicles, signing bonuses to attract new deputies.

Draper did not mention a process of collecting community input to determine the biggest needs for the funding.
