After the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was passed and signed into law earlier this month, progressive groups are beginning to name their priorities for the 2023 Farm Bill.

While Farm Action published their Farm Bill Policy Handbook as early as May of this year, others like Minnesota’s Land Stewardship Project have waited until now to name the top concerns.

With windfalls to farmers coming out of IRA, like the load of funding coming through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) which offers financial incentives for farmers to invest in solar panels and the $20 billion for climate smart agriculture, some groups are needing to reevaluate the biggest needs for the upcoming omnibus bill that is essential to food sovereignty and food security in the US.
