The Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced last month a $1.5 million award in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to increase cargo capacity to help the community transition away from coal toward a manufacturing and logistics hub.
The award is part of a $300 million Coal Communities Commitment.
The funds will go toward street widening and other infrastructure improvements to improve supply chain and transportation needs to alleviate future supply chain bottlenecks.
“This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Southwest Missouri Council of Governments (SMCOG),” reported the EDA. The project is expected to create 94 new jobs and $28 million in private investments.
