From the Lake Frederick, Virginia, one resident is noticing that Democrats are delivering for rural Americans.
In her letter to the editor of the Winchester Star, Catherine Giovannoni detailed the way the recently-passed Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) will be supportive to rural folks by reducing energy costs, expand rural access to high-speed internet, and bring rural business opportunities, among other benefits.
She also pointed out the suite of other recently-passed legislation supporting rural communities, including the Infrastructure, Investments, and Jobs Act, the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act for veterans, and the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) Act, which contains the RECOMPETE pilot program directing $1 billion to persistently distressed rural communities, which overlap with rural areas significantly.
In 2022, the Biden-Harris administration and the Democratically controlled Congress have passed bills investing more in rural areas than RuralOrganizing.org has seen at any time in our organizational history.
